Birds of Dominica
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Inspired by a visit to Emerald Pool during my time in Dominica, Birds of Dominica brings together seven bird portraits, each paired with its handwritten name. Signs highlighting the local birdlife introduced me to species I hadn’t heard of, alongside familiar favourites like the bananaquit, hummingbird and bullfinch.
Entirely hand-drawn digitally, this artwork became a little lesson in Dominican birdlife as I drew. From colourful feathers to distinctive markings, each portrait celebrates the island’s wildlife and the joy of discovering more about a place connected to my heritage.
